Roof is underway!

November 17 - it was a very cold weekend. In fact, yesterday was a snow day and it snowed and snowed and snowed so the crew went to the house (Dad, Alex, Edson, Dave and Christiaan) and returned back home almost right away.  There was too much snow to get anything done on the house.  It became a shopping day, that is looking for bathroom fixtures, and specifically shower fixtures as the plumber will be coming next week to do the rough in for the bathrooms. As well, we found a deal at Lowe's for the basement bathroom shower stall which I picked up today so we have covered off the bathroom tub/showers - well except for the ensuite, I need to select a shower for it and am considering the Madison on the Costco online website.

Today proved to be better progress on the house than yesterday, the crew (Dad, Alex and Edson) continued to work on the roof while Christiaan worked on getting the window openings prepped for installing the windows.  Basement floor is almost cured but keeping the heat on since it's been a damp and cold and then snowy week.  So here's the progress...

Stairs and roof trusses have arrived!

Nov 12 - It was a busy long weekend!  The crew (David, Alex, my dad, Christiaan, Jorey, Mike) worked like busy beavers all weekend getting all the exterior walls up on the second floor and some of the interior walls done. The roof framing package was delivered Monday by Igloo and today the interior stairs and the roof trusses came.  In addition, the piles for the exterior stairs were drilled.  The basement floor is prepped and ready for the concrete to be poured tomorrow morning at 8:30 am!  The weather is above zero so this is good timing as it sets better in warmer weather vs. the -13 weather the crew was working in over the weekend!  So here's the latest on the framing....

and our stairs and roof trusses!

And the late night after work tonight Jorey and Christiaan worked on laying the basement floor insulation to be ready for the concrete coming in the morning...

Second floor!

Nov 9 - so it's been a productive but very cold week this week.  Mainly it was my dad and cousin working on the house all week.  We had hired a helper, he came on Tuesday then was never seen again.  Thankfully Jerad came and helped the guys out on Thursday and Dave on Friday and today along with my husband, Mike and my brother.  We got our plumbing inspection finally this week which means we can pour the basement floor as soon as my husband gets the basement grade level and styrofoam insulation on the floor. We were debating in floor heating in the basement but have decided it was probably not worth the extra expense since we're planning on having two furnaces anyway.  So here's the progress!

oh and we can't forget our little helpers!

First floor update

Nov 3 - Well, we have complete exterior walls and the interior framing is coming along but as you will see, we have a little weather obstacle so things are going a little slower as a result.  We had great help again today from my dad and cousin, Alex, my husband, my brother and my friend's boyfriend, Dave.  My husband and Dave spent the day digging out the window wells for the basement windows which was very important because once the ground freezes, this is an impossible task and would delay the installation of the basement windows.
